MOMOYAMA AND LATER, 16TH CENTURY AND LATER

The Buddhist vestments typically made from textile fragments; one a patchwork of Chinese silk scraps embellished with gold lotus flowers on a dark blue ground, with sections depicting the writhing body of a dragon; another with stylised Chinese flowers and brocade patterns on a yellow ground; the third made of Japanese fabric with rhomboid mon and kirimon (paulownia crest) on an orange ground; all three mounted on rectangular frames, the largest 211cm x 118.5cm.
