David Davies was born in Merionethshire and attested for the 51st Light Infantry in Chester, 1832, aged 21 years. He served with his regiment in the campaign against the King of Ava in 1852/53, an was discharged in 1854, being no longer fit for duty. He ended his career having been tried three times by court-martial, though also possessing two good conduct badges.
