A RARE ELIZABETH I STUDDED LEATHER TRAVELLING TRUNK

IN THE MANNER OF WILLIAM GREEN, LONDON, C.1550-1580

with iron strapwork mounts and escutcheons, the hinged domed lid revealing a part linen lined interior above a gilt tooled leather escritoire, the fall front decorated with elaborate lozenges, crowned Tudor rosettes and lions and unicorns enclosing five drawers, with side carrying handles

Catalogue Note

A related Royal trunk with a similar fall front and almost identical handles which was made for Edward VI can be found in the Victoria & Albert Museum, accession no. w.18:1 to 6-1958.
