A NUREMBERG BRONZE CUP WEIGHT

BY GEORG SCHILLER OR SCHULLER, GERMANY, C.1650

the tapering body with banded and punched decoration, the hinged cover with a swing handle with figural mounts, hippocampus lock and decorated with two 'dog fish', marked '16' and stamped with a fleur-de-lys and three maker's marks, enclosing a tapering cup weight with incised banded decoration and stamped '64' to the base

20.5cm high, 12cm diameter (max)

Catalogue Note

Georg Schiller (or Schuller) was made Master in 1633.

The Victoria & Albert Museum, London, holds a similar nest of bronze weights as accession number 559:1 to 13-1872.
