Description

A Sèvres coffee can (gobelet litron), c.1780, painted by Louis-François Lécot with a continuous chinoiserie scene of figures in a horse-drawn sleigh, others ringing bells and skating on a lake, one having taken a tumble, beneath a formal scroll border in blue and gilt, blue crowned interlaced Ls mark enclosing date code CC above painter's mark L., 6cm.
Lécot specialised in chinoiserie scenes on hard-paste porcelain, demonstrating a broader understanding of art and decoration and drawing inspiration from other decorative techniques including cloisonné and lacquer work.
