Description
A delftware drug or ointment jar, c.1700-20, painted in blue with a basket of fruit flanked by birds perched on leafy stems, above a cartouche inscribed 'V. ENVLAT', two small drill holes, 19.3cm.
Unguentum Enulatum was an ointment made from elecampane rhizome, oil of wormwood, turpentine and lard, which was used to treat skin disorders.
