Two rare Liverpool tiles, c.1750-75, painted in blue with landscape river scenes within an octagonal panel reserved within an elaborate border of putti standing on large foliate scrolls, minor damages, 12.8cm. (2)
Cf. Anthony Ray, pp.172-173, nos. 298 and 299. Ray discusses the complexity of the border, which was adapted by John Sadler as an example of the efficiency of woodblock printing over the labour of hand painting.
