A RARE PEWTER GLOBULAR SALT

WIGAN OR YORK, C.1710

by the unidentified pewterer ‘IH’, (or less possibly IB), the heart shaped mark struck centrally under the foot that is hollow to the base of the salt cavity, naive engraved decoration flanking ownership initials 'A * H',

4.6cm high, 5.7cm diameter

Catalogue Note

This bulbous form of smaller bodied salt may be slightly later in date than a capstan type. It may be possibly nearer to circa 1700 in date.
