earliest mark of Robert Clothyer, Chard, Somerset, on front rim , with four ‘lion passant over RC’ hallmarks, with ownership initials ‘IM’ opposite, an old paper label on the reverse reads ‘bought from Mr Chambers, The Heath, Weybridge whose ancestors were in the service of the Earl of Ilchester in the West Country 12. IX. 07’
