the brass eight day single fusee movement with five knopped pillars, a verge escapement and repeat mechanism, striking on two bells, the backplate inscribed 'Benj. Gray London' inside scrolling foliate engraved decoration, the brass dial with a silvered chapter ring with black Roman and Arabic numerals, inscribed 'Benj. Gray London', the matted centre with a false pendulum and date aperture, inside foliate spandrels and beneath a silvered regulator dial, the case with a caddy top, glazed arched panels and stepped foot, with a pendulum

Catalogue Note
Benjamin Gray was the Watchmaker to the King from 1742. He spent most of his working life in Pall Mall with his son-in-law, Francois Justin Vulliamy, trading as Gray & Vulliamy from about 1743 until his death in 1764.
