A MATCHED SET OF EIGHT WILLIAM IV YEW AND ELM WINDSOR ARMCHAIRS
IN THE MANNER OF JOHN OR ELIZABETH GABBITAS, WORKSOP, NOTTINGHAMSHIRE, C.1825-40
each with a pierced splat back above a saddle seat and on turned legs united by a crinoline stretcher, six with cut-outs under the arms and a pair with burr splats (8)
Catalogue Note
John Gabbitas (fl.1822-1839), originally from Retford, established a chairmaking workshop in Worksop in 1822. His wife, Elizabeth, carried on the workshop for five or six years after his death in 1839.
