the centre with a view of St Peter's Square and Basilica within a malachite border and eight topographical vignettes of views of Rome including the Colosseum, the Temple of Vesta, the Pantheon, the Tomb of Caecillia Metella, a view of the Forum and the river Tiber with Castel St. Angelo within a trompe l'oeil Greek key border, on an ebonised tripod base
