A LARGE CHARLES II BRONZE MORTAR
BY THE SAMUEL SMITH FOUNDRY, YORK (fl.1672-1709), DATED '1679'
below the rim inscribed ‘WILLIAM METCALFE MERCER IN YORK 1679’, the waist cast with a wide band of bells, foliage and cartouches with maker's mark 'SS Ebor' (Ebor: Eboracencis, Latin for York)
