AN UNUSUAL SMALL OAK AND MARQUETRY COURT CUPBOARD
PRINCIPALLY IN THE ELIZABETHAN MANNER, DATED ‘1596’
the frieze unusually with a pair of slender doors, centred by a conforming fixed panel, all inlaid with a black letter inscription ‘BY : ME : THOMAS : AEDWES : A : RIGHTEOUS : MAN : SHALL : LIVE : OF : HIS : FAYTH : ROI : YEAR : OF : THE : LORD : 1596’, the recessed middle tier with a pair of deeply moulded doors, each inlaid with a flower filled vase and centred by a conforming fixed panel, all flanked by Ionic capital and stop-fluted turned end columns, the lower-section with a pair of heavily moulded doors, again inlaid with a flower filled vase, the deeply moulded sides with lozenge inlay and whorl carved centre, on extended stile supports
