Jenny Mond’s work is mainly abstract, but may include vessels, perhaps as a metaphor for humans, and also because of her love of old objects. The vessels may be transparent, opaque, decorative or a little misshapen! She enjoys working in mixed media on wood, creating many layers, using brushes, a trowel, sandpaper and whatever tool comes to hand to scratch through the surface and make an interesting mark.

Last year Jenny produced a body of work inspired by the Japanese tradition of 'kintsugi', whereby broken pottery is mended in such a way as to make a feature of the repair, which is often beautified with gold. The result can be something more interesting than it was when first made. It also works as a metaphor for us as humans - fragile, but perhaps stronger in spite of our imperfection! These works have been described as 'poems in a frame'. This year she has gone back to colour but is still interested in exploring the history and fragility of our lives, and beauty in imperfection.

Jenny was a librarian and bookseller until giving that up at the end of 2018 to devote more time her creative pursuits. She now paints in her garden studio in the Chalke Valley.

Jenny exhibits regularly, mainly in the south west, and opens her studio during the biennial Salisbury Art Trail. In 2024 she had a painting accepted for the RA Summer Exhibition, and one longlisted for the ‘Women in Art’ prize.
