ATTRIBUTED TO THOMAS PISTOR, C.1690

Catalogue Note
A very similar oyster veneered table box was sold by Alexander George Antiques where the attribution was based on a kingwood escritoire that was in collection of Basil Ionides at Buxted Park and researches made by W. R. Harvey Antiques, Witney. The overall profile and proportions of the Buxted escritoire conform to that of the table-box offered here and the W. R. Harvey cabinets as does the pattern of oysters visible on the frieze, and there is a strikingly similar large radiating circular pattern.
