TURKISH, 18TH / 19TH CENTURY
the Kashmir wool ground worked with gold and silver thread embroidery, the raspberry field with a flowering plant issuing tulips and further flowers, beneath a leafy cusped Mihrab, the upper spandrels with further floral decoration, enclosed by borders of urns and flowers, flanked by meandering vine guard stripes, later mounted on a linen board in an acrylic frame

This prayer rug was formerly in the collection of Roger Peyrefitte (1907-2000), who was a French diplomat, writer of bestseller novels and non-fiction, and a defender of gay rights and pederasty.
