Catalogue Note

A similar jar was sold at Bonhams London, Fine British Pottery and Porcelain, 10 December 2008, lot 10, where it was noted that 'Duke's Place' may refer to a street in Aldgate, London. This lot, or a very similar jar, is now held at the Jewish Museum, London, accession number 2008.115. The name ‘Fernandes’ may refer to the family of Solomon Fernandes Nunes, a merchant known to have lived in the nearby parish of St Andrew Undershaft.
