Description
A George III gold wine label,
maker's mark of D.F, probably for Daniel Fitch, London 1794,
rectangular form, canted corners, reeded border, incised 'Madeira', with a pierced foliate crowned pediment engraved 'DW' below a crest with a motto, with a gilt metal chain, length 4.2cm, approx. gross weight 9.3g.
Provenance: A Private Collection.
The initials, crest and motto are those of Dudley and Ward, probably for William Ward (1750-1823), 3rd Viscount Dudley and Ward.
