A GOOD JAPANESE SATSUMA BOWL BY THE KINKOZAN WORKSHOP
MEIJI ERA, 19TH/20TH CENTURY
Richly decorated inside and out, the well with a central panel enclosing a complex scene of a long procession with a central ox-drawn cart, the figures walking on a bridge and by a river; all framed by colourful flowers and leaves, bamboo curtains, and triangular lappets; the reverse delicately painted with further borders of flowerheads and a wide continuous band enclosing a very large number of men, women and children, all wearing colourful garments and depicted at leisure; the base signed Kinkozan zo in a square cartouche, 12.6cm.
