TWO JAPANESE IRO-NABESHIMA PIECES BY THE IMAEMON WORKSHOP
HEISEI, 20TH/21ST CENTURY
One a deep footed bowl, the well moulded with lotus flowers and leaves, with three quatrefoil panels enclosing branches of oranges, the reverse simply painted blue, the base inscribed Imaemon, together with a tomobako wood box inscribed Nishiki tachibana-e kashiki (polychrome, mandarin orange decoration bowl for confectionery) and Imaemon with a red seal Imaemon; the other a footed dish with similar decoration of mandarin oranges on a geometric ground, the reverse with flowering sprays of peony, the foot with comb design; signed to the side Imaemon, with a tomobako box inscribed iro-Nabeshima Tachibana-mon kodai-zara (polychrome Nabeshima mandarin orange pattern high-footed dish) and Jūsandai Imaemon (Imaemon XIII) and sealed Imaizumi Tōen; 15.5cm and 17.2cm.
