A KOREAN BRONZE FIGURE OF A BODHISATTVA
UNIFIED SILLA DYNASTY, 9TH CENTURY

Depicted standing, wearing long flowing robes and a tall headdress with ribbons trailing down her shoulders, her hands held in the abhaya and varada mudras, the gestures of protective compassion and signifying the granting of wishes; raised on a modern wood stand, 21.5cm overall.

Provenance: from the collection of Robert L Stolper of Stolper Galleries, and thence by descent. Robert worked with Asian and African art from the 1940s onwards in Amsterdam, Munich, New York and the UK.
