A collection of medals to female recipients, comprising: a pair: British War Medal 1914-20, Mercantile Marine War Medal (ANNIE HADDON), with original envelopes and folded ribbons, extremely fine; Voluntary Medical Service Medal (BESSIE ABBOTT.), about extremely fine; four: 1939-45 Star, Atlantic Star, Africa Star, War Medal 1939-45 (SISTER I. M. RISDON), privately engraved in plain capitals, good very fine; and an Institution of Naval Architects silver medal on bow ribbon with 1897 clasp, some rim dents, otherwise extremely fine. [8]

Annie Eliza Haddon was born in Southampton in January 1874, and remained a resident of the city until she died in 1969. The daughter of Frederick Haddon, a Mariner who appears to have died or departed when she was young, Annie lived as a teenager with her aunt and cousins, one of whom was a ship's steward. She followed the same vocation and worked as a Stewardess for the London and South Western Railway Company, which ran cross-channel ferry services from Southampton, before, during, and after the Great War.

Sister I. M. Risdon served in the Q.A.I.M.N.S. Reserve from 1941. It would appear that she was also entitled to the Italy Star, a ribbon for which appears among her medals.
