An Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal to Bugler Major Thomas Ryder, Sussex Militia (ex. 10th Hussars), Victoria, swivelling suspension (1650. BUGLER MAJOR THOS RYDER, SUSSEX MIL.), nearly extremely fine; together with a Volunteer Long Service Medal, Edward VII (1447 PTE J. ROGERS. 1ST V. B. WORCESTER: REGT), good very fine or better. Thomas Ryder was born in Brighthelmstone (Brighton) in Sussex. He enlisted in the 10th Hussars on the 18th of November 1817 at the age of 13 years and 10 months, and was discharged on the 21st of October 1847. His total service was reckoned at 25 years and 260 days, including 1 year and 3 months in Portugal. He settled in Arundel and joined the Sussex Militia.
