Description
Four horn powder flasks of the Percy Tenantry Volunteers, polished cow horn of natural shape, each with a brass base engraved with the crowned crescent of the Percy Tenantry, three with brass spouts closed by spring-retained measuring scoops and numbered 'C 12', 'C 48' and 'D 4'; the fourth with a similar but un-numbered spout (possibly a replacement, each approximately 33 cm (13 in.) long, circa 1800. The Percy Tenantry Volunteers were first raised in 1798 by Hugh Percy, 2nd Duke of Northumberland, and an artillery company was added in 1805.
