Description

An early 19th century mahogany hall bench, the rectangular back with concave corners and a moulded edge centred an inset painted armorial, with conforming arms and a channelled boarded tapering seat on square tapering legs, 36in (91.5cm) h, 53.75in (136.5cm) w, 20.25in (52cm) d. Nicolas Jean de Dieu Soult (Marshal Soult) 1769-1851, was a French general and statesman, named Marshal of France in 1804. He was one of only six officers to be give this title. He was the Prime Minister three times.
