Description
An Elizabeth I parcel gilt communion cup with a flared bowl, engraved with an upper frieze of arabesque floral scrolls within formal reserves, the pedestal with a flange in the from of a Tudor rose flower, between repeating borders of hatching and pellets, plain domed foot, struck once below the rim with an incuse 'X' mark, unascribed, but certainly of Midlands origin, 7.2in (18.2cm) high, 9oz. *The form of the bowl and its construction (seamed, vertically) and the idiosyncrasies of the stem are typical of Midlands-made cups particularly of Leicestershire and Warwickshire.
