Description

An Elizabeth/James I unascribed provincial, maidenhead spoon, pricked 'PB' over 'IS' on the back of the bowl, gilt terminal, struck once in the bowl, with a maker's mark, 'CW' or 'GW' [conjoined] in a pelleted circle*, unascribed 1590-1610, 6.3in (16cm) long, 0.8oz. *Interesting to note that Jackson records a similar mark (though not the same), seen on spoons, including a maidenhead and on plate in various Midland counties. See Jackson's revised pp. 375.
