Description
A late Victorian brass Tipstaff, with screw off crown cover, the tubular body inscribed 'METROPOLITAN POLICE Constable employed in Plain Clothes,' and stamped 'PARKER FIELD & SONS 233 HOLBORN LONDON,' 7.25in (18.5cm) l. Tipstaves were carried by law enforcement officers and would hold warrants of arrest. The present example dates to post 1870, when they were re-issued with inscription. They were withdrawn in 1887.
