Description
** A Tibetan copper and silver figure of Palden Lhamo, riding side-saddled on a mule and crossing a sea of blood, she wears a garland of freshly severed heads, a small lion and serpent hang from her ears and she yields a large hammer, a small Makara headed attendant at her side, the items detachable, 18th/19th century, 18cm. (4) Palden Lhamo is the only female amongst the eight great dharampalas and considered the principal Protectress of Tibet, the mule is covered in her son's skin whom she killed when her bloodthirsty husband refused to cease his wanton killing, showing that she will stop at nothing to achieve peace.
