Fencing interest: a modern plain oblong cigarette box, inscribed 'Presented by the members of the Ladies Amateur Fencing Union to Mrs J. L. Spong* president 1930-1936 in token of grateful appreciation', the cover applied with a miniature fencing epee, by Deakin & Francis, Birmingham 1929 (lined) 8.1in (20.6cm) long. *Sold with a magazine cutting of 1922 showing an image of Mrs Spong (nee Miss M H Hall) and her husband leaving the church at their wedding, under an archway of sabre's. Miss Hall was Lady Fencing Champion (foils) in 1907 and 1908 (and was present holder of the title in 1922)
