A large collection of plaster impressions of neo-classical intaglios and gems, taken from specimens in the Prince Stanislas Poniatowski (1754-1833) Collection, made by John Tyrell, set in seven trays in a pine cabinet, c.1830-1840, 5.25in (13.2cm) h, 11.5in (29.8cm) w, 11.25in (29cm) d. (175 specimens) Following Prince Poniatowski's death the famous collection of gems and intaglios was sold by Christie's in 1839 and John Tyrrell was the largest single buyer.
