Railway interest: a George II silver mug,
by Robert Albin Cox, London 1758,
baluster form, leaf capped scroll handle, on a circular foot, later embossed with a tavern scene, within foliate scroll decoration, inscribed ' Presented to Mr John Pountain by the servants in the Passengers' Traffic Department at the Brighton Station as a token of esteem respect', height 13.1cm, approx. weight 12oz.
Although this inscription is not dated, records show that a Mr Pountain was the non goods manager at Brighton Station from 1849-50.
