A John and Jane Pennington (Liverpool) blue and white teapot stand c.1780
A John and Jane Pennington (Liverpool) blue and white teapot stand c.1780, and a Seth Pennington beaker, each printed with the Rural Lovers scene, and a coffee cup printed with a similar scene of a courting couple beside a flock of recumbent sheep, 14.8cm max. (3)
The Rural Lovers print derives from an engraving by François Vivares after a Gainsborough painting, but was adapted with several differences by each factory, as evidenced here. See lot 173 for the rare version adopted by Philip Christian.
