A rare London delftware tile probably Pickleherring Pothouse c.1625

£200 - £300 £300

A rare London delftware tile probably Pickleherring Pothouse c.1625, decorated in blue, ochre and green with a figure running with a spear, the corners with petal motifs, 13.3cm.

The presence of oval nail holes in the corners of this tile, and those of the following lot, suggests a London manufacture. Cf. Ian Betts and Rosemary Wernstein, Tin Glazed Tiles from London, p.5 and p.56.
