Isidor-Jules Bonheur (French 1827-1901). A bronze model of a standing bull
Isidor-Jules Bonheur (French 1827-1901). A bronze model of a standing bull, on a naturalistic oblong base, signed 'I BONHEUR' and stamped 'PEYROL EDITEUR', 38.5cm high, 54.5cm long.
Provenance:
Sotheby's, 19th & 20th Century European Sculpture, 16th November 2006, lot 66.
The collection of Roy Merley.
Bonheur was a regular Paris Salon exhibitor and the bull was one of his most popular subjects. The above bronzes were both cast by his brother-in-law, Hippolyte Peyrol, and they display the fine quality finish one would expect from a top fondeur.
