A late 17th century walnut and marquetry inlaid longcase clock, the 8 day movement striking on a bell with six turned latched pillars, the 10in square brass dial with a silvered chapter ring, inscribed 'Edwd Burgis Londini Fecit,' with a subsidiary seconds dial and engraved date aperture with a matt ground, blued steel hands and cast winged cherubs head spandrels, the rising hood released by a spoon lock, with a fabric backed pierced frieze above spiral twist pillars, the floral and birds marquetry on an ebonised ground, the trunk door with a gilt framed oval lenticle, panelled veneered sides, the base on later turned feet, 198cm (78in) high. Edward Burgis is recorded as working in London in the 1670s.
