A PAIR OF MASSIVE JAPANESE BRONZE LION DOGS, SHISHI
EDO OR MEIJI PERIOD, 18TH OR 19TH CENTURY
The two mythical beasts depicted seated on their haunches, one with its mouth open and baring its fangs and the other with a short horn on top of its head, both ferocious-looking and with scrolling manes, 63cm and 67cm respectively. (2)
Provenance: from a deceased estate, Hampshire. Purchased from Michael Goedhuis on 7th January 2000; a copy of the original invoice is available.
