An 18th century French gold mounted tortoiseshell snuff box , of canted oblong outline with a alternating serpentine borders and an all over design of wavy engine turning, the interior with scalloped borders, set with an enamelled portrait of Louis XV inside the cover and inscribed `ARTUS' on the closure, probably a retailers name with a waved thumbpiece, maker's mark "GG", Paris 1747, Paris 17, 3.25in (8.2cm) wide overall.
