Woolley and Wallis Chairman Paul Viney Installed as Master of The Arts Scholars Livery Company

12 Jun, 2018

We are delighted to announce that Woolley and Wallis Chairman, Paul Viney ASFAV,  was installed as Master of The Worshipful Company of Arts Scholars this May.

The idea of a Livery company devoted to the decorative arts was first muted in 2002 by the late Jonathan Horne a leading ceramics dealer. Over the next fifteen years he and many other voices within the industry, including Paul,  worked tirelessly to achieve Livery status which was granted on February 11th 2017.

Unique in its situation, The Company is the only body to represent all those involved in the study, curation, collection and trade in antiques, antiquities and objects of decorative and applied arts.

With over 300 members including auctioneers, dealers, museum curators, arts administrator and collectors, the Company is primarily a charitable institution and is heavily involved with supporting a broad range of arts related institutions and individuals.

Mr Viney takes the mantle of Master from outgoing incumbent, entrepreneur Loyd Grossman CBE, a writer and broadcaster with a long involvement in museums and heritage in the U.K.  An installation dinner held at the Stationers Company Hall offered the new Master a chance to accept the felicitations of fellow members, in a place where his father Laurence Viney was Master of the Stationers in the mid-1980s.
