20th Century Design

We hold four specialist auctions across the year: Clarice Cliff and Art Deco, Arts and Crafts, 20th Century Design, and British Art Pottery. These themed sales cover ceramics, glass, metalware, works on paper, silver and textiles, from the Arts and Crafts movement to the present day.

We have successfully auctioned the collections of Lord Parmoor, the BBC producer Verity Lambert, and recently the Clarice Cliff collection of Jimmy Greaves. Woolley and Wallis are market leaders in 20th Century Design, in particular contemporary ceramics, Martin ware, Clarice Cliff and Arts and Crafts.

Archibald Knox's work for Liberty & Co are the true masterpieces of British Art Nouveau and this auction includes a selection of pieces designed by Knox and manufactured in Pewter and silver. A four piece tea set, cast in low relief with stylised honesty seedheads and set with a green chrysoprase stone is a perfect example of his understanding of the turn of the century continental movement. The set is complimented by a beautiful Cymric silver photograph frame also designed by Archibald Knox, dated 1902. The sale includes part of a private collection of William Arthur Smith Benson metal ware sold to benefit The Albert Dawson Trust.
