20th Century Design
We hold four specialist auctions across the year; Clarice Cliff, Art Deco & Design, Arts and Crafts and British Art Pottery and Studio Ceramics. These themed sales cover ceramics, glass, metal ware, works on paper, silver and textiles, from the Arts and Crafts movement to the present day, with our bi-annually British Art Pottery and Studio Ceramics auctions running alongside our Modern British Art sales.
The department achieved a world record auction price for a piece of Martin Brothers pottery in 2014, beating the world record previously set by Woolley and Wallis in 2013 and have sold two of the largest and finest collections of Martin Brothers pottery in recent years.
We have successfully auctioned the collections of Lord Parmoor, the BBC producer Verity Lambert, a private collection of Burmantofts Faience Pottery, where we equalled the world record auction price for a Burmantoft charger and a prestigious sale of the studio pottery collection of Professor Luke Herrmann. In June 2023 we sold a collection of Wiener Werkstatte designed by Josef Hoffmann for £636,300 culminating in a record sale total and in 2025 we sold a unique 'Carp' vase by William Moorcroft, achieving another world record.
The 20th Century Design department is located at Unit 1B, Castle Gate Business Park, Old Sarum, Salisbury, SP4 6QX. Sales are still held at Castle Street.
