OGASAWARA RINTARO (1870-?) 'HATSUNE'

19TH/20TH CENTURY

Depicting a bijin standing at a circular window between two shoji paper screens, covering her mouth with her sleeve in a thoughtful gesture, the shadows of a bird perched on a branch cast before her, signed Ogasawara Hogai, the reverse inscribed: 'Pastell Painting named Hatsune. By Hogai Ogasawara. Artist in Kyoto Japan. Daughter listen very quietly singing of uguisu' (Japanese bush warbler), framed and glazed, 62.5cm x 48cm.
