A CHINESE BRONZE FIGURE OF LU DONGBIN

LATE MING DYNASTY

The immortal stands wearing long flowing robes bordered with lotus heads scrolls and foliage, with his hair arranged in a topknot and holding his hands together with his palms on top of each other, raised on a rectangular integral stand, 33.5cm.

Cf. R Kerr, Later Chinese Bronzes, pp.80-5 no.64 and also M Maucuer, Bronzes de la Chine impériale des Song aux Qing, p.156, no.108 for similar figures.

Lu Dongbin is one of the Eight Immortals honoured as a great poet and swordsman. In the present figure he is depicted as a scholar.
