AN IRANIAN AGATE-MOUNTED BAZU-BAND SAFAVID DYNASTY, DATED 11AH (1689) Probably given as a prize to a wrestling champion, comprised of three oval agate plaques set in white-metal mounts, the central plaque of red carnelian-agate flanked by two translucent honey-coloured agate plaques, all incised with verses from the Quran, all mounted on a leather strap, the central plaque 4.5cm, the outer plaques 3.8cm each. Provenance: Christie's London, 31st July 1997, lot 150.
