A Martin Brothers stoneware Aquatic ewer by Edwin and Walter Martin, dated 1888, shouldered, square section, incised and painted with grotesque fish swimming amongst waterweed, the neck with eels and a seahorse, green and ochre, highlighted with white, incised with a drinking verse, Welcome my friende, drinke with a noble hearte But yet before you Drinke too much departe, For though good drinke, doth make a coward stout, yet when too much is in the wit is out, to the front, incised 12-1888 Martin Brothers London & Southall, stress line to side, 23.5cm. high
