A Pilkington's Lancastrian Pottery single-handled vase, dated 1912, compressed ovoid body with collar rim, painted with three medieval long boats, inter-spaced with a flock of flying cranes, the foreground flowering trees, in copper lustre on a cream ground, the neck with a band of laurel, impressed marks, painted date 1912 artists monogram E A P, 11.5cm. high

A.J. Cross Pilkington's Royal Lancastrian Pottery and Tiles, Richard Dennis, page 49 plate 53 for an example of this shape decorated by Gordon Forsyth in the collection of Salford Museum and Art Gallery. The shape was based on a thirteenth century Persian Sava lustre jug (see plate 52).
