A tall Arts and Crafts repousse hammered copper vase by John Williams, twin-handled tapering cylindrical form, decorated with fish swimming amongst waterlily pads, unmarked 48cm. high The Studio Volume 8 1896 a comparable vase by John William's illustrated. John Williams trained at Ashbee's Guild of Handicraft and was responsible along with John Pearson for the early beaten copper and brass work. he resigned his position in 1892 and went on to teach at Hammersmith School of Arts and also Fivemiletown Art Metalwork classes in County Tyrone. A similar but smaller vase decorated with the same fish and waterweed, and also constructed with the join down one side, is held in the collection at the Cheltenham Museum & Art Gallery.
