A Tonga headrest
A Tonga headrest, Kali Laloni, Vava'u Island, raised on square block feet with curved legs with a V shape top and bound with sennit to the rounded top, with hand written paper label 'Head - Pillow - Vavau, Tonga - "H.M.S. Pylades". 1902.' 16.5cm high, 44.5cm wide.
H.M.S. Pylades was a Satellite class sloop built for the Royal Navy and launched in 1884. Following service with the North American and West Indies Station, she commenced service on the Australia Station in November 1894 and left in January 1905.
