A good selection of African, Oceanic and American Art on Day II offers, masks, figures, stools, headrests, textiles, weapons and pottery. Jewellery from various sources including a variety from the Gerty and Klaus Anschel Collection, amongst which is large Baltic amber specimen (lot 611.)
A fabulous Idoma head crest known as an ungulali, (lot 541) carved with four heads is a tour de force of skilled carving, with an encapsulating presence, from the collection of Jenny Armit would be a welcome addition to a collection.
An Austral Islands stool, that stands with a regal presence (lot 797) with an accommodating seat and fine carved stylised edge, is a stunning pieces of Polynesian art.
An interesting Tongan club (lot 804) with a lobed head and all-over carving, which according to family traditional was acquired by a relative, Albert Welch, who worked on the famous tea clipper, Thermopylea, in the 1890s.
