carved wood, raised on three scroll legs to a panelled body, with metal rings, a circular boss and remains of a metal hand mirror, with a applied silver coloured metal plaque inscribed GAZE, August 1895., with a sinew and pegged vellum skin,

98.5cm high.

Admiral Sir George Le Clerc Egerton, K.C.B, thence by decent.

Egerton was serving with the Naval Brigade in Mombasa in 1895. During this period he received gifts from the Sultan of Zanzibar.
